Building Canada Fund:
Major Infrastructure Component (MIC) The federal funding to this program was allocated based on Manitoba's population (as of the 2006 Census). The Building Canada Fund program operates through two components: the Major Infrastructure Component (MIC) and the Communities Component (CC). All projects are cost-shared, with the maximum federal contribution to any single project being 50 per cent. However, generally, municipal infrastructure projects are cost-shared on a one-third basis. For projects where the asset is owned by a private entity, the typical federal/provincial contribution is 25 per cent each. The MIC targets larger, strategic projects of national and regional significance. Under the MIC, two-thirds of funding, on a national basis, will be directed to the National Priorities (water, wastewater, transit, national highways system and green energy). Projects under the MIC were selected on the basis of merit through federal-provincial negotiations, and all projects are required to meet criteria targeting environmental, economic and quality of life objectives-regardless of the category. Innovative technologies and partnerships are also emphasized.
