Northern Manitoba Sector Council – Mining training simulator equipment
EPA Funding - $1.7 million
Announced July 27, 2010

Funding will be used to purchase two state-of-the-art training simulators that will enable miners to learn how to operate underground mining equipment, undertake proper safety measures and cope with an underground emergency situation. Two movable simulator training stations with four interchangeable consoles will be used to provide training. The training will be delivered at the newly announced Northern Manitoba Mining Academy in Flin Flon and Vale Inco in Thompson.

Travel Manitoba – Marketing and product development plan
EPA Funding - $5 million
Announced June 28, 2010

Travel Manitoba will develop and implement a three-year international marketing and product development plan aimed at rebuilding United States markets and meeting emerging opportunities elsewhere in the U.S. and in Europe. Travel Manitoba will launch a strategy to assess and enhance the overall appeal of Manitoba tourism products abroad, test brand awareness in its key high-volume markets, and evaluate the potential of emerging markets in Europe and elsewhere. Specific marketing will focus on strengths of rural Manitoba, including wildlife viewing, outdoor adventure and sport fishing.

CME – Virtual Centre of Excellence
EPA Funding - $4.2 million
Announced June 28, 2010

The Manitoba Division of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) will launch the Virtual Centre of Manufacturing Excellence to help Manitoba companies increase their competitiveness by integrating “lean” manufacturing principles and other advanced processes into their operations. By sharing best practices in manufacturing and creating networks linking larger and smaller companies within Manitoba’s supply chain, the centre will help the industry achieve greater success in the global marketplace.

Manitoba Music - Music industry development
EPA Funding - $1.8 million
Announced April 6, 2010

This four-year project will boost the long-term viability of Manitoba musicians and related companies by helping them adapt to digital global markets and seize new opportunities. As the export development agent for the industry, Manitoba Music will stay abreast of industry trends and ensure Manitoba artists, agents and companies link up with key players in world markets. The agency will also provide consulting services on strategic planning, help diversify the industry's products and services, and address skill shortages through programs to mentor new employees.

University of Winnipeg - UWin CREATE
EPA Funding - $7 million
Announced January 15, 2010

The University of Winnipeg Commercialization Research and Education Alliance for Science, Technology and the Environment (UWin CREATE) will be a key strategic feature of the Science Complex and Richardson College for the Environment. Working with key partners at Brandon University, the University College of the North and networking company Cisco Systems, and other private and public sector partners, the centre will provide innovative technologies supporting environmental research. UWin CREATE will train graduate students and industry participants in applied sciences focused on the urban environment, helping to ensure a highly skilled workforce for Manitoba's environmental industry.

CDEM - Economic development of bilingual communities
EPA Funding - $1.68 million
Announced January 13, 2010

Le Conseil de développement économique des municipalités bilingues du Manitoba (CDEM), a leader in economic development in Manitoba, has embraced the power of bilingualism to stimulate, encourage and support bilingual municipalities as unique and promising places to live and do business. This funding will allow CDEM to provide support to youth and new immigrant start-up businesses, develop entrepreneurial training for youth, and complete nine community economic development plans, or “Vision Plans.” In addition, francophone youth will have the opportunity to further develop their cultural and linguistic pride, while developing their skills, interests and leadership capacity.

On Screen Manitoba - ACCESS project, an economic development strategy
EPA Funding - $2.5 million
Announced November 27, 2009

The ACCESS project is an economic development strategy to strengthen Manitoba's film production companies by supporting their ability to adapt to new technology, address emerging skill requirements, improve their competitiveness and increase their global market share. It also aims to develop the Aboriginal and francophone film communities in Manitoba into recognized hubs of Aboriginal production, and francophone film production outside of Quebec.

L'Agence nationale et internationale du Manitoba (ANIM) - Trade and Investment
EPA Funding - $2.9 million
Announced October 30, 2009

L'Agence nationale et internationale du Manitoba (ANIM) provides services to expand the presence of Manitoba organizations and businesses in national and international francophone markets, and works with clients overseas to promote business investment opportunities in Manitoba. The funding assists ANIM with business trade and investment initiatives that focus on recruiting business immigrants and attracting new business investments in the province.

Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce - ‘Selling Winnipeg to the World’
EPA Funding - $280, 000
Announced October 23, 2009

Since June 2008, the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce’s “Selling Winnipeg to the World” initiative has generated a high level of interest and support from the local business community in its efforts to attract new businesses and jobs to Winnipeg, and encourage retention of existing Winnipeg businesses.
