Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA)
Projects (2003-2008) Red River College - Centre for Aerospace Technology and Training (CATT) EPA Funding - $1,263,000 Announced on January 22, 2009 Working in consultation with industry representatives, the new Centre complements existing facilities and ensures the long-term competitiveness of Manitoba's aerospace sector while promoting local trades training and employment. The Centre focuses on technology research and development in key areas of the aerospace sector and is the first in Canada to make these new technologies available to industry. The Centre has purchased specialized equipment, such as advanced laser welding, automated laser cladding and cutting, and a hot section coating system. All equipment is used for research, teaching and production. Eastside Aboriginal Sustainable Tourism (EAST Inc.) - Aboriginal Tourism Economic Development Initiative EPA Funding - $245,000 Announced on June 20, 2008 Eastside Aboriginal Sustainable Tourism (EAST) Inc. launched a comprehensive Aboriginal tourism development and marketing initiative. The project includes working with communities to identify Aboriginal tourism assets; develop tourism business opportunities; facilitate Aboriginal tourism training; establish a network of Aboriginal tourism operators; market and advertise tourism products, and increase the number of tourism visits. The initiative is expected to increase the number of sustainable, locally-owned Aboriginal business enterprises operating along the east side of Lake Winnipeg and provide new tourism-related employment opportunities for residents, including youth. Red River College - Mobile Training Labs EPA Funding - $3,120,000 Announced on May 9, 2008 Red River College is bringing trades training to rural communities with two mobile training labs. Each lab is contained in a 53-foot trailer that can quickly transform into a 950 square foot unit. Diesel generators supply the necessary power to operate electrical equipment, as well as lighting, heating and air conditioning. Supply trailers, housing materials, training aids, and additional tools and equipment also connect to the mobile lab, increasing the facility space to almost 2,000 square feet. The portability and mobility of the training labs allow the college to deliver nationally-recognized trade training, such as automotive service technician, carpentry, electrical, machining, pipe fitting, plumbing, welding and industrial mechanics, to rural Manitobans. The labs also increase accessibility for students in rural areas to training programs and link training opportunities with community-based projects and emerging industries. Manitoba Audio Recording Industry Association (MARIA) Manitoba Music and Motion Pictures Development Project (M3P) - One year extension EPA Funding- $300,000 Announced on April 18, 2008 The joint M3P initiative has been credited as one of the driving factors behind the exceptional growth of Manitoba's film and music industries over the last several years. Through this EPA funding, the M3P project was extended for one additional year, until March 31, 2009. During this time, the Manitoba Audio Recording Industry Association (MARIA) and On Screen Manitoba will continue to provide corporate and professional development activities for members. Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters - Advanced Manufacturing Initiative EPA Funding- $1,200,000 Announced on February 19, 2008 The Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) - Manitoba Division will continue to assist the manufacturing industry in exploring and implementing lean manufacturing principles through the Advanced Manufacturing Initiative (AMI). FPInnovations - Forintek Division Manitoba-Forintek Value-Added and Wood Technology Program EPA Funding- $1,178,000 Announced on January 17, 2008 The Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) is contributing $1,178,000 to FPInnovations-Forintek Division for its Value-Added and Wood Technology Program in Manitoba. The program will assist Manitoba wood product manufacturers in diversifying their products, increasing their competitiveness, and extending their market reach. Canadian International Grain Institute EPA Funding- $499,360 Announced on November 23, 2007 The Canadian International Grain Institute (CIGI) will establish an advanced pilot cereal testing, training and demonstration centre with over $499,000 in funding through the Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement. Agence nationale et internationale du Manitoba (ANIM) EPA Funding- $1,537,600 Announced on September 7, 2007 Initiated by Société franco-manitobaine (SFM), ANIM is a new non-profit organization designed to provide services to any business or other organization in Manitoba that wishes to expand its presence in the Canadian and international Francophone markets targeted by ANIM. ANIM will also help attract investment, work with Francophone business clients overseas who wish to invest in Manitoba, and position and promote Manitoba to Francophone markets. Conseil de développement économique des municipalités bilingues du Manitoba C'est si bon! Ensemble Together Branding Initiative EPA Funding- $140,000 Announced on September 7, 2007 C'est si bon! Ensemble Together will help participating communities position themselves as places to invest, work and play, while demonstrating how the value added of bilingualism contributes to their and Manitoba's economic development and growth. Conseil de développement économique des municipalités bilingues du Manitoba and Entreprises Riel - Tourism and Economic Development Initiatives Strategic Plans EPA Funding- $661,300 Announced on September 7, 2007 CDEM will continue the work initiated in 2004 to promote the unique cultural, linguistic and Métis heritage of its member communities and foster economic development. Funding will be used to develop marketing materials, provide training and promote tourism in general through familiarization tours, guides and website development. EPA funding will be used by Entreprises Riel toward the operation of its tourism information centres in St. Boniface and St. Norbert in addition to economic development initiatives such as providing support and guidance to new francophone commercial immigrants. Manitoba Hydro Laboratories - Biodiesel Testing EPA Funding- $351,500 Announced on July 5, 2007 Manitoba's only fuel testing centre will be expanded to provide state-of-the-art services to the province's biodiesel industry. The Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement is providing $351,500 while Natural Resources Canada is contributing $262,500 to Manitoba Hydro's Selkirk laboratory to provide a critical service required by the biodiesel industry. Red River College-University of Manitoba Joint Manufacturing Training Facility EPA Funding- $1,102,000 Announced on April 12, 2007 Both students and industry in Manitoba will benefit from a state-of-the-art manufacturing training facility and program to be run jointly by Red River College and the University of Manitoba. Forintek Wood-Finishing Specialist EPA Funding- $75,000 Announced on November 14, 2006 Manitoba's wood manufacturing industry will soon have access to a specialist who will help firms overcome technical challenges, as well as provide information and programs to help develop the industry. Neepawa Industrial Wastewater Treatment Facility EPA Funding- $5,400,000 Announced on August 28, 2006 An expansion of the industrial wastewater treatment facility that currently serves the Springhill Farms hog processing plant will provide additional wastewater treatment capacity for future processing and manufacturing plant development in Neepawa and surrounding areas. Vehicle Technology Centre - Supplier Development Program EPA Funding- $1,500,000 Announced on July 27, 2006 Improved manufacturing processes and new technology development will strengthen the productivity and competitiveness of Manitoba-based transportation suppliers through a new supplier development program. Communities Economic Development Fund (CEDF) - Northern Producers Recovery Program EPA Funding- $1,300,000 Announced on July 14, 2006 The Northern Producers Recovery Program will receive $1.3 million from the Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) to assist fishers and trappers along the Churchill and Grass River systems repair, replace, or enhance equipment and infrastructure damaged by high water levels and flooding in 2005. University of Manitoba - Nano-Fabrication Laboratory EPA Funding- $1,240,000 Announced on June 29, 2006 An expansion of the University of Manitoba's Nano-Fabrication Laboratory will give students and researchers access to new technologies and increased commercialization opportunities. The Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) is contributing $1.24 million towards the project. Conseil de développement économique des municipalités bilingues du Manitoba (CDEM) EPA Funding- $2,250,000 Announced on May 12, 2006 EPA is investing $2.25 million in Manitoba bilingual communities to advance economic development in rural communities, develop youth entrepreneurial activities, and foster international trade links with France and Belgium. Film Training Manitoba EPA Funding- $260,000 Announced on April 20, 2006 The Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement is providing $260,000 towards a new pilot program to increase the number of skilled senior film crew members in the province through Film Training Manitoba. Composites Innovation Centre (CIC) EPA Funding- $6,600,000 Announced on March 20, 2006 The Composites Innovation Centre (CIC) will receive a further $6.6 million under the Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) to support the growth of an internationally competitive composites industry in Manitoba. Rivers West EPA Funding- $750,000 Announced on October 20, 2005 A renewed multi-year funding agreement will continue Rivers West's efforts to promote tourism, economic development and environmental stewardship in communities along the Red River Corridor. The funding will be $250,000 a year over the next three years. International Peace Garden EPA Funding- $3,700,000 Announced on September 9, 2005 Visitors to the International Peace Garden will soon learn more about the role of gardens throughout history in promoting peace, mediation and conflict resolution through a new Interpretative Centre and Garden Development. Rivers West - Recreational Use of Expanded Floodway EPA Funding- $175,000 Announced on September 1, 2005 Rivers West will be kicking off a comprehensive consultation process with recreational stakeholders that will explore plans and possibilities that will aid in the future recreation and greenway development of the Floodway. Shoal Lake Natural Gas Service EPA Funding- $1,600,000 Announced on June 3, 2005 Shoal Lake will receive natural gas service thanks to a $1.6-million investment under the Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). The governments of Canada, Manitoba and the Town/Rural Municipality of Shoal Lake will each contribute one third of the project costs. Prairie Ocean Centre of the Arts - Eco Arts and Cultural Programs EPA Funding- $150,000 Announced on May 12, 2005 The Prairie Ocean Centre of the Arts is a not-for-profit community-based organization that is establishing an arts centre to support the development of a cultural industry along the shores of Lake Winnipeg. Outreach initiatives have been developed in conjunction with arts and cultural organizations that will promote and support eco tourism as well as create economic opportunity in the Interlake Region. Churchill Gateway Development Corporation EPA Funding- $2,000,000 Announced on May 4, 2005 Ongoing marketing of Churchill as a diversified shipping and value added port will continue over the next five years as the Churchill Gateway Development Corporation receives $2 million in funding under the Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). Movement Disorders Clinic EPA Funding- $370,000 Announced on April 25, 2005 The historic Women's Tribute Memorial Lodge on the grounds of the Deer Lodge Centre on Portage Avenue will have a new function as a Movement Disorders Clinic with funding of $370,000 under the Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement. Advanced Manufacturing Initiative EPA Funding- $1,840,000 Announced on February 4, 2005 A new initiative by the Manitoba division of the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) will strengthen the province's manufacturing sector as a lean, skilled and competitive machine. The Advanced Manufacturing Initiative (AMI) will receive $1.84 million, consisting of matching federal and provincial shares, under the Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). 2005 Juno Awards EPA Funding- $550,000 Announced on January 10, 2005 Winnipeg will rock the 2005 Juno Awards with support of $550,000 under the Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) for the 34th annual gala to be held in Winnipeg from April 1st to 3rd, 2005. Red River Exhibition Association to Undertake Feasibility Study Expansion EPA Funding- $125,000 Announced on December 21, 2004 The Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) is providing $125,000 towards a feasibility study to examine possible year-round recreation opportunities and increased economic potential at Red River Exhibition Park. The Red River Exhibition Association (RREA) is leading the initiative. Northern Forest Diversification Centre EPA Funding- $1,200,000 Announced on November 10, 2004 The Northern Forest Diversification Center (NFDC) will receive three year operating funding to expand and enhance its operations in The Pas, Manitoba. Based on a system of sustainable harvesting and use, NFDC works to link the growing demand for non-timber forest products with the need to create sustainable economic development opportunities for local residents of remote communities. The Centre focuses on building awareness, conducting inventories, delivering training, providing after-care services and marketing. Non-timber forest products are wild, natural, organic products derived from the forest other than timber and firewood. MMPIA/MARIA Manitoba Music & Motion Pictures Development Project - Phase 2 EPA Funding- $2,400,000 Announced on November 9, 2004 The Manitoba Music Motion Picture Project (M3P) Phase 2 will see the Manitoba Motion Picture Industry Association Inc. (MMPIA) and the Manitoba Audio Recording Industry Association Inc. (MARIA) bring the Manitoba music and film industry together to continue to work to develop cooperative and individual strategies for increased local, national and international market access and corporate and professional development to enhance the overall marketability and competitiveness of the film and music sectors in Manitoba. Centre culturel franco-manitobain (CCFM) and le Cercle Molière EPA Funding- $1,425,000 Announced on November 8, 2004 Centre culturel franco-manitobain and le Cercle Molière (CM) will undertake a joint capital project including construction of a new theatre for le Cercle Molière and renovations to the 30-year old Centre culturel franco-manitobain at the corner of Provencher Boulevard and Des Meurons Street in historic St. Boniface, Manitoba. The new facilities will offer more space to create a favourable environment for cultural activities which will offer opportunities for the community at large to participate in Canada's rich francophone heritage. This project will also receive funding of $500,000 under the Canada-Manitoba Infrastructure Program. Conseil de développement des municipalités bilingues du Manitoba (CDEM) - CDEM Tourism & Enterprises Riel (ER) Initiatives EPA Funding- $600,000 Announced on November 8, 2004 CDEM and Entreprises Riel will undertake tourism and economic development initiatives which promote the unique cultural, linguistic and Métis heritage of these communities. The communities involved are the Rural Municipality (RM) of Ellice; RM of St. Laurent; Local Urban District (LUD) of Lorette; Village of St. Lazare; RM of La Broquerie; LUD of St. Léon (Lorne); RM of Montcalm; Village of St. Pierre-Jolys; Village of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes; RM of DeSalaberry; RM of Ritchot; Village of Somerset; Village of St. Claude; City of Ste. Anne; Village of St. Georges; and the Riel Quarter of the City of Winnipeg (includes St. Boniface, St. Vital, and St. Norbert). Rivers West - Red River Corridor Association Inc. EPA Funding- $250,000 Announced on November 4, 2004 Rivers West will undertake marketing, planning and research activities to promote tourism and conservation along with Red River in conjunction with local communities. These activities are intended to create and promote a greenway or corridor along Manitoba's Red River that connects people with communities and attractions as well as conservation, recreation, economic and tourism resources. Rivers West is committed to increasing and promoting access to the Red River and the attractions of the valley to ensure that visitors and tourists experience its beauty. Inglis Area Heritage Committee Inc. - Heritage Elevators Restoration EPA Funding- $183,400 Announced on November 4, 2004 EPA funding will be used to restore the National Elevator and complete the North and South Annexes at the Inglis Grain Elevators National Historic Site. This is the final stage of the project which began in 1998 to restore the row of five historical grain elevators in Inglis. This project is a community-based rural economic development initiative which provides visitors with interpretative and educational opportunities on the history of the grain trade, prairie settlements, the rail transportation system and other related topics. SEED Winnipeg - Social Purchasing Portal EPA Funding- $98,550 Announced on October 13, 2004 The Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement will provide SEED Winnipeg with $98,550 to set up an online database to link Winnipeg's core businesses and encourage the sale of purchase of goods and services. SEED Winnipeg is a registered non-profit charitable organization. Its mandate is to combat poverty and assist in the renewal of inner city communities by providing services to help low-income individuals, groups, organizations and economically distressed neighbourhoods improve their social and economic vitality. Disabled Sail Manitoba EPA Funding- $130,000 Announced on August 24, 2004 Upgrades to the Pelican Yacht Club on Pelican Lake in southwestern Manitoba were completed with EPA funding of $130,000. Facility renovations were finished in time to host the International Mobility Cup in August 2004, a regatta for sailors with disabilities. This is the first time the regatta was hosted outside of a large centre such as Calgary or Ottawa. The renovations to the Pelican Yacht Club provide a lasting legacy that allows Disabled Sail Manitoba to offer a variety of sailing events in the future. Forintek EPA Funding- $1,037,200 Announced on March 12, 2004 Funding of $1,037,200 from Canada and Manitoba under EPA has established Manitoba as a partner province in Forintek Canada Corp's Value-Added and Wood Technology Program. This partnership provides Manitoba access to Forintek's core research program and assists Manitoba's wood product manufacturers to overcome technical obstacles and take advantage of market opportunities in the wood products sector. This province wide project will advance innovation, research and development, and improve the competitiveness and productivity of the wood product industry in Manitoba. Composites Innovation Centre EPA Funding- $2,000,000 Announced on May 21, 2004 The Composites Innovation Centre (CIC) provides Manitoba with economic growth through first-class research and development in composites as well as providing for new product development. Composites are reinforcing fibers or molding compounds such as fiberglass or carbon, embedded in a plastic material. The markets and applications for composite and bio-composite materials include aerospace, automotive, civil infrastructure, sporting goods equipment, electronics, household appliances and furniture. Funding of $2 million under EPA has been provided for first year operating costs of the CIC. |
