The Canada-Manitoba Infrastructure Framework Agreement under the Building Canada Plan was signed on Friday, September 5, 2008. The agreement contains a number of components including the Communities Component, which is similar to the current Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund program in Manitoba.

The Canada-Manitoba Infrastructure Programs (CMIPs) encompasses four infrastructure programs:

BCF-CC- Building Canada Fund- Communities Component, 2008-2017
MRIF - Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund, 2005-2010
CMIP - Canada-Manitoba Infrastructure Program, 2000-2008
CSIF - Canada Strategic Infrastructure Fund
